Community Education Instructors are part-time/adjunct instructors who teach non-credit, non-academic courses. These positions maybe eligible for benefits under the PTFO union if the employee teaches at least six equated contact hours (ECH).
New Employees: Must submit an online application via Cornerstone and complete their new hire paperwork including both steps of the Federal Form I-9.
Active/Existing Employee: An employee who has worked for the college within the last 12 months. To check the status of an employee, contact your HR Staffing Partner.
Start Date: Allow five business days for paperwork to be completed by the employee and processed by HR. Work assignments may be made once the employee’s assignment and PCID are created; however, the employee cannot begin working until both are active.
Criminal Background Check with fingerprinting: These must be completed post-job offer. For criminal background check policy and procedures, refer to the Criminal Background Check Policy and Procedure document.

Contact your HR Staffing Partner to request access to the appropriate applicant pool. They will grant you access to the applicant pool so you may review applications as they are submitted through Cornerstone.
If you want to hire a 19-hour staff employee who will not be instructing a course, partner with your Associate Director to submit an annual plan request. These positions cannot be hired using the adjunct instructor annual plan or adjunct instructor applicant pools. These positions must be posted separately.

When the candidate accepts the job offer, complete the Part-Time Hire Details Form following the directions provided on the form. Link to form: Part-Time Hire Details Form

Select the appropriate classification

List the General Ledger (GL) Line on the form and the rate of pay under “Additional Information”

Send completed Part-Time Hire Details Forms via email to employment@parkland.edu.

Your HR Staffing Partner will confirm your request and will begin processing the hire.

If you do not receive confirmation from your HR Staffing Partner within two business days of the request, contact employment@parkland.edu or reach out them directly.

New Employee

If the candidate is a New Employee, your HR Staffing Partner will contact the candidate via email with instructions regarding onboarding, new hire paperwork, Form I-9, and criminal background check.

The Onboarding Specialist processes new hire paperwork then forwards to Payroll.

New hires must present valid identification documents to Human Resources for Step 2 of the Federal Form I-9 within 3 days of start date. This is a federal requirement.

After processing the new hire documents, the Onboarding Specialist notifies the department and emails the hiring manager their PCID.

When criminal background results are received and approved, the Labor and Employee Consultant notifies the candidate and their hiring manager.
Active/Existing Employee

If the candidate is an active employee, the HR Staffing Partner reviews whether additional hiring steps are needed.

Contact your HR Staffing Partner to verify any required actions for an employee.
The employee is not authorized to begin work until all onboarding steps are complete and you have been notified all requirements have been fulfilled. For questions about progress, contact the Onboarding Specialist.

Provide each instructor with the necessary training, workspace, and tools.

Ensure instructors have appropriate access to college systems. Submit a Campus Technologies Account Request Form as needed. Link to form: Employee Account Access Forms.
Employment and Issue Resolution

Report any unresolved instructor issues to the Associate Director.

Notify HR Labor and Employee Relations team before ending an instructor’s employment.

Do not allow employees to begin work until all required steps are completed.
