Laptop Distribution Policy

Body

Purpose:

This policy outlines the eligibility criteria and process for distributing laptops to faculty and staff at the college to support their teaching, operational, and administrative duties.

Scope:

This policy applies to all full-time faculty, full-time staff, adjunct faculty, and part-time staff at the college.

Policy:

1. Eligibility for Full-Time Faculty and Staff:

  • All full-time faculty and staff are eligible to receive an individual college-assigned laptop.

  • Laptops are provided to facilitate the academic, operational, and administrative responsibilities of the faculty and staff.

2. Eligibility for Adjunct Faculty and Part-Time Staff:

  • Adjunct faculty and part-time staff are not eligible for an individual college-assigned laptop.

  • Instead, they may utilize one or more of the following options:

    • Loanable laptops, which are available in the Learning Commons.

    • The Apporto virtual desktop accessed via https://parkland.apporto.com/.

    • Desktop computers available in the adjunct faculty offices.

3. Responsibilities:

  • Recipients of college-provided laptops are responsible for the care and maintenance of the equipment.

  • Laptops must be used in compliance with the college's Acceptable Use Policy for technology resources.

  • Loanable laptops must be returned to the Learning Commons in the same condition they were issued.

4. Procedures:

  • Eligible full-time faculty and staff may request a laptop by submitting a Service Request to Campus Technologies.

  • Campus Technologies will process requests and distribute laptops based on availability and eligibility criteria.

  • Adjunct faculty and part-time staff may check out loanable laptops from the Learning Commons.

5. Exception Process for Adjunct Faculty and Part-Time Staff:

  • Adjunct faculty and part-time staff with unique business needs requiring an individual college-assigned laptop may apply for an exception by submitting a Laptop Exception Request Form to Campus Technologies.
  • Campus Technologies will review the request and evaluate the business needs and availability of laptops.
  • Campus Technologies will notify the requester of the approval or denial of the exception request.
  • If approved, the requester will follow the same procedures as full-time faculty and staff to receive a laptop. The requesting department will provide funds for these laptops.
  • If denied, the requester may appeal the decision to the Vice President for Academic Service or the Vice President for Administrative Services. The decision of the relevant vice president on the appeal is final.
